Floral denim thrifted fashion

Hi lovelies, so today I thought I'd do a fashion post, quite the spur of the moment thing for me, as I don't really do, fashion. However I really liked the outfit I was wearing yesterday and thought I'd show you! all of these items are thrifted as well, so I love thrifted fashion posts, and I hope you do to!

Let me just say I don't wear dresses, normally! I feel usually very insecure in a dress and I don't know how to be, in them. But this dress, is so comfy, and very flattering. I love the floral in the monochrome colours.I love that its cotton, and light and flouncy without showing off too much, I still find it stylish though.

total cost of outfit
The jacket cost me $7,
Dress cost me $4
Leggings $3
The denim really brings it together I think, and the black beads help with the neckline shaping, usually in dresses I feel like I'm out of place. I love how structured and fitted the denim jacket is, it almost looks tailored.
I paired it up with my black leggings, and it makes for a smart casual outfit, perfect for my work, shopping or anywhere really.
I've been really trying to branch out of my fashion rut, which is jeans and a t-shirt, so hence why I'm usually uncomfortable in a dress.

what have you been wearing lately?

my unofficial guide to Instagram and cats taking over the web

Hello lovelies! today I am writing a little wee guide that is very unofficial on how to create an instagram account and get instagram famous. What is instagram famous? and why would you bother? well basically its getting as many followers as possible as well as likes on your photos and comments as well. I have found there is a pattern on instageram, people tend to like cats, a lot. Which is great for me as I am a crazy cat lady and love sharing pics of my cat Krissy. But fear not if you don't have your own cat to take selfies with... here's how to get started! Why would you  bother?  because its a fun, rather addicting hobby that will slowly take over your life.

and of course my cat Krissy

Sign up and choose an intriguing name. My name on instagram is jessicacookbirds, its not interesting but people tend to remember it better. Choose a punchy, punch line of yourself for your profile. Cat's, cats, its all about cats, and oh don't forget the cats, could be one of them!
But change it up to suit you and your personality. You will need a profil pic, make it interesting! make it pop, make it say I'm having a fantastic, and interesting and never ending social life (even if we're not)

I post make up and thrifted stuff I find

So then what do you do? we post pics, add hash tags toget the most views. Hash tags are #cats #food the things with that cross symbol. Put as many as you can relating to the topic of that photo and I even ram in some random ones just for the sake of it, it helps to spread into the feed more.

Also make friends on instagram, find those that are interested in similar things, comment and get to know them.

It cracks me up trying to be a fashion poser

But most of all have fun! and lets watch the cats take over the world!
If you liked this post then please comment, share me your intagram account and lets follow each other! I'm @jessicacookbirds

Feature post from vinty_fresh from instagram

Hi all! I have a very exciting feature for today's blog post! we have from Brittany aka Vinty_Fresh from instagram!

she answers a few questions about what gets her excited about fashion, thrifting, and what is her personal style.

What got me into fashion?
I have always been into fashion and trying to stay trendy. I think I really started getting into it when I got out of high school and started developing some kind of style. It wasn't until I started thrifting that it became full blown and I really showed off my style and creativity with vintage fashion.

What is your signature style?
My signature style would be what my name is.. vintyfresh! It's vintage but with a fresh spin on it.

What do you like wearing for comfort?
I love wearing oversized denim, crewnecks and chunky shoes for comfort. I always look to mens style for comfort. I am somewhat of a tomboy at heart but with a little girly flare to it.

Heels or Flats?
Definitely heels! They just make me feel sexy and lady like. Not to mention they make your legs look awesome! Although flats are more comfortable, heels are always the way to go!

In 10 words describe yourself
Confident, inspiring, vibrant, creative, daring, fresh, humble, funny, stylish, unique

Tell us about your shop
My online vintage resale shop, reinvintyfresh, is my way of making one of kind vintage pieces available to those who also have a love for vintage, but have trouble thrifting things like it themselves or just making it easy by finding the things for them. I am very selective with my pieces and try and make sure I have something for everyone! I use to have an online vintage resale shop a couple years back that was very successful, named vintyfreshclothing, but became too much to handle all by myself. This time, I have the help of my mom so I respectively named it, reinvintyfresh, because I wanted to reinvent the store, myself, and the brand and make it better then ever before.

Why is thrifting so important to you?
Thrifting is important to me because it allows me to express my creativity. It is my outlet for this. Everyone wants a way to express themselves, whether it be through music, art, dance.. but mine is thrifting. It is my art and my craft that I have done since I was a kid but developed and perfected over time. It is my passion and it is my way to help inspire others in the world with the message: You don't have to spend a lot of money to be stylish or fashionable.

how to pick the best purses at a thrift store and save money

Hello lovelies, its an over cast morning here in Melbourne/Australia and I thought I'd share with you a little way on saving money on purses/.handbags and still being able to collect some really super cute ones. I do this a lot now so I know this works, so I do hope that you enjoy this post.

Fake Gucci pure I picked up for $3.20! I love it and don't care at all that its a fake.

so I'm turning into the bag lady as of late! working at the thrift shop doesn't help and having a huge passion for thrifting doesn't help either! weirdly I never actually used to like handbags/purses either!  I tend to look for bags in places like Strandgags, Target or Kmart however, however these can range from $20-$100 at the thrift store a good bag can cost as little as $2.

A cute little purse with kittens on it I picked up for $4 strangely more expensive then the fake gucci, both were at Salvo's thrift store.

Thrift shops are your friend
my first choice are the smaller charity shops, because they are the cheaper ones around me. Look for small charity stores where you think they will smell musty, don't be fooled however because you can find some awesome treasures in these. I've been around the block a few times in charity shops and know my way around them, you have to really hunt through the stuff.

So are Yard sales/Garage sales
Admittedly I haven't gone to a Garage sale in ages because charity shops/thriftshops/opshops are my passion but I will start doing so. But I do remember going around in my teenage years with my mum, who picked up some amazing bargains, just like charity shops sometimes you have to hunt. And sometimes its ok to haggle the prices down a little at Yard sales.

A very cutove these little saddle bags, and I picked this one up for $4.50e boho bag, I l

Flea markets/markets in general
Now I love markets, the feel of a market is exceptional! it really is, the vibes there are fun, almost like a festival. If you go to the right one. I used to attend a lot as my mother had a weekend stall at a very popular market in Camberwell/Melbourne. So I got to see some amazing treasures at that market. Be sure to get there early, and have time and patience to look around. Some markets are bigger than what you think. Also ask at the gate which sections have which are because some have fruit and veg at one and others have another area set up in different sections, it may save you time.
if you have enjoyed this post please let me know! comment below, what have been your thrifty buys lately? also please share and follow.

This one I loved because it looked to have been crocheted. I picked it up for $3. I loved its cute chevron patten.

Also some tips on buying a good bag
look at the lining of the bag, is it in good condition?
Does it smell? are there stains?
look at the quality of the stitching
look at the handles
look at the outerside of the bag to see if any of the decorations or things that shouldn't are coming off.

Last but not least a fake louis vuitton! I was thrilled with this, for a fake it is so well made, its quite old too. I love using it for when I go out. I also picked this one up for $4.

hugs Jess
